It’s the holiday season, and families are gathering around for food and fellowship.
While holidays have a mostly positive message, for many people holidays are anything, but positive. Here is were being grateful truly comes in. For me personally, holidays can be painful, because many times, I don’t have much of an outside family to spend it with(its a long story that i will tell at some point). I’ve spent many holidays alone, and since I didn’t grow up celebrating holidays, I don’t have any traditions to really follow. Many of these holidays I’ve cried lonely tears. For others though, maybe the holidays remind you of how much money you don’t have, or a reminder of family member who is no longer here. It’s no wonder why suicide is at its highest around this time of year. It’s painful reminder of what we don’t have.
If any of these situations apply to you, my heart goes out to you, and I also want you to know that you are not alone. Take out those journals of yours, and remind yourself of what you do have. Our goal for the next two weeks is to write forty things we’re grateful for.
For the one who is without much family. Gather what family you do have (friends can be family, pets too!) and start a tradition, and enjoy their company. For the one who doesn’t have much, it’s not about the things you have but, the memories you make. Bake cookies with your family, or use a skill set to make someone’s day. For the one who’s lost someone, celebrate their life this season, and every season after.
A father of the fatherless and a judge and protector of the widows, Is God in His holy habitation. God makes a home for the lonely; He leads the prisoners into prosperity,
PSALM 68:5-6 AMP
